Aleph – First Year – Wednesday (Wilgus)
9/10: Today in class, we worked on:
- What a great first day!
- We started off with Rabbi Prass and some basic rules – no phones (there is a box for them), where the restrooms are, and where our classes are, then we got to hear the shofar for Elul.
- We joined together in our classroom and got our books! We have a Hebrew book, a machberet (notebook), and a chart for our homework. We also each got nametags for stickers during the year.
- We learned 3 Hebrew letters and 3 Hebrew vowels! Then we learned how to put them together to read them out loud. And we learned how to write them!
- We created flash cards for each letter and vowel, with their names so we know how they sound. These are to practice at home, too!
- We practiced reading aloud from our book together and each did a great job! This will be a wonderful year.
- The students gathered back in the sanctuary with Rabbi Prass for Hebrew through Movement. And from there the parents came back to our room so we could meet and discuss our classroom. It was lovely to see so many parents.
Homework to be completed by next class:
- Each week students will be asked to practice reading their Hebrew aloud. Their Hebrew book contains sections to read what they have just learned and builds on what they have learned before.
- This week, students are asked to finish pages 6 and 7 in their book and practice reading aloud at least 10 minutes a day.
- Students are also to practice writing the letters they just learned in their machberet – 1 letter per page in the wide spaces. The narrow spaces are for vowels, which they do not need to practice.
- They are also asked to practice with their flashcards to be sure they know their new letters.
- Students have a chart to note that they have completed their homework. Parents are asked to put a checkmark in the box for that day and students will receive a sticker for their completed homework.
- Please be sure to bring a pencil and all of your books and cards to class each week.
